School Work Week 11

Hello Year 2! How are you all?

Here we are in week 11 of lock down. Can’t believe it’s been so long! You are still doing so well and making us so proud.  We had a very busy first week back and are still missing you tonnes! Thank you for all your lovely messages and photos, they’ll be on the website as soon as possible.

Soon we will be releasing some transition preparation for you all. We are still talking to your new schools to try and make this as easy as possible for you. As soon as we know more – you will too.

The work may look a little different this week. So make sure you read it through with your grown ups first.

PHONICS – there is the usual phonics activity document as well as a phonics mystery challenge. Solve the clues to solve the mystery.

SPELLINGS – carry on as usual but make sure you look at the extra challenge task on the spellings document.

SPAG – there are two documents to help you practice homophones and expanded noun phrases. There are mini tasks within them that you can do in your literacy books.

LITERACY – there is already a lot for you to have a go at that links to literacy so this week you have a poetry reading comprehension task to try.

MATHS – the quick maths document is a little different this week. It’s arranged so you do the same few activities every morning. Your grown ups can help you through the document. They are like our ‘Quick Response’ tasks that you are used to doing on the carpet with whiteboard when we do maths. Just do them in your maths books instead. There is also a reasoning and a arithmetic challenge paper to have a go at. Make sure when you work through these you have a look, if a question asks you ‘why’ or ‘explain’, try to answer in as much detail as possible. It is good practise for next year. There’s also a bonus mystery task that needs you to solve the clues to solve the mystery, like your phonics ones.

PE – The Derbyshire School Games Group have released an awesome week long cricket challenge. You don’t need fancy equipment (unless you have it). There is so much to learn and have a go at on here. If cricket isn’t your thing then see if you can change the sport but do the same tasks.

TOPIC – there sadly isn’t many special celebration days this week however The Wildlife Trust has released something super fun for all the family. Have a look through the ’30 Days Wild’ documents. There are so many ideas for ways you can learn at home and get you to explore nature. There is also a Joyful June project from the Action for Happiness organisation with lots of lovely mindfulness and gratitude tasks on. We would love to see what you do with these so please let us know and feel free to send us photos.

SCIENCE – there are two quick colour activities for you to try to add a splash of colour to some of these rainy days we have been having.

Grown ups - as always, thank you very much for all you're doing! There is a document on here in regards to helping with maths that may help clarify a few things that some of you were asking about last time we spoke.

Have fun and keep smiling. If you need any help then please let us know!
